How to read motor oil label?
You'll find in this section explanations to help you read a lubricant's label. See below an example with an engine oil label:
- 0W-30= Viscosity grade. W-30 lubricants are more fluid than W-40 standard grades and thus help to save fuel (they are called Fuel Economy lubricants)
- Composition: either mineral/semi-synthetic/synthetic based/100% synthetic. Generally speaking, the more synthetic is the oil, the newest is the vehicle
- Homologation: it mentions if the product is approved by one or several OEMs. Please refer to your owner's manual to see what is the OEM's homologation recommended.(Example: MERCEDES MB-Approval 226.5)
